Roses & Silver Fountains

This story is dedicated to Fijay at Blog On! who inspired this fool’s midnight errand.

50 word story

Last night I set myself  a Sisyphean dilemma, to find the origin and nature of the mysterious dot beside the moon. Now before you howl, ‘Perseid meteor shower’ and  likely suspects, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter, I’ll quote Shakespeare. About roses, silver fountains and clouds that stain the moon.

  1. Don’t tell me you were out looking for that dot – I was out there at midnight too! It’s almost like the beginnings of some weird cult… a dot cult. (The story is super, by the way.)

    • I told her about how it might be Mercury although Jupiter has been visible to the naked eye, if you know where to look, since February. So I was out on my roof, beer in hand, watching the moon except it was stuck behind the bell tower and when it finally did decide to come out, there were clouds. It was Jupiter, I’m pretty certain. Do you know the sonnet, Roses have thorns and silver fountains mud, Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun? I’m finished with the dots. I hope she gets the joke and thanks for the complimentary critique. If it weren’t for you guys, blogging would be boring.

      • I find it very cool that three of us, strangers in many ways, were all out at the same time, looking for the same dot, in different parts of the country – all on the basis of an innocent blog post! That, in itself, must be a kind of poetry. It sort of feels Joycean, somehow.
She has a marvellous sense of humour, I have no doubt she will get the joke and enjoy it immensely.
